Expiration of the certificates for qualified electronic signature

Those individuals that use the ID cards for the electronic communication should be aware that the ID cards that were issued before June 21, 2021 will not have a valid certificate for qualified electronic signature at the end of this year.

They need to visit the district office of the police (department of documents) and change the ID for a new one. As of October 7, 2022, the administrative fee for issuing an ID card is cancelled. Before the change, it was necessary to pay a fee of €4.50. Logging in to the public administration portal - www.slovensko.sk will continue to work with the original ID card even after the certificate expires, which will enable the user to read received messages in the e-box but it won´t be possible to sign and send any document.

The ID cards issued after June 21, 2021 have the certificates valid until June 17, 2025.

After the issuance of a new ID card, all shareholders should make a change of their ID number in the Commercial Register is necessary.

From January 1, 2023, it will be possible to obtain the ID cards in biometric quality.
