Crowe was delighted to assist Orpea Group in its recent acquisitions of Athlunkard Nursing Home (Co. Clare) and Kilbrew Recuperation & Nursing Care (Co. Meath).
Orpea, which is headquartered in Paris, is the world’s biggest publicly traded nursing home group by revenue, with revenues of €3.9bn in 2020.
Orpea Group has been very active since entering the Irish market in 2020, acquiring Brindley Healthcare, TLC Nursing Home portfolio, the FirstCare collection of nursing homes, as well as a number of independent nursing homes.
It is now the largest private care home provider in the Irish sector. Following the acquisition of Athlunkard and Kilbrew, it has over 2,100 beds in the Irish market and an active pipeline for further growth.

Naoise Cosgrove commented: “Crowe’s M&A and tax teams are delighted to support Orpea with its latest acquisitions of Athlunkard Nursing Home and Kilbrew Recuperation & Nursing Care. These acquisitions demonstrate the continued consolidation in the Irish market and the strong appetite for well-located care homes. With Ireland’s aging population and a shortage of beds we anticipate further strong activity in the sector in 2022 and beyond.”
