Introduction:
Developments in the international tax arena is changing the way each trading entity with cross boarder business ought to look at itself. Transfer Pricing and Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) has become a key focus of all revenue authorities worldwide. Africa and the Middle East are no exceptions.
Over the last few years, most African and Middle East countries, having realized the magnitude of revenue leakage, have felt the need to introduce Transfer Pricing domestic regulations.
Recently the OECD with the support of G20 countries launched a project with a BEPS Inclusive Framework in efforts to increase tax transparency and exchange of information amongst signatory countries in Africa and Middle East. While some countries have already signed up for the OECD’s Inclusive Framework on BEPS, few countries have taken steps in implementing the 3-tier documentation system as per BEPS framework recommendations.
